Sustainability

Sustainability on Vejrø
At Vejrø, the lighthouse represents our approach to sustainability, with our clear direction, responsibility for the environment and our ambition to lead the way - locally and internationally.
Vejrø is run as an independent microgrid with its own wind turbine, solar cells, local heating and biological purification. We are self-sufficient in energy, water and heat - and work purposefully with regenerative agriculture and circular systems. Here, sustainability is not a compromise, but a quality in itself.
April 2025: 4 days of 100% green energy and a total of 59% green energy share on electricity production
Own Microgrid in "island mode"; with own wind turbine, photovoltaic system, local heating and biological micro purification system.
Regenerative agriculture with a focus on 100% ecology. The idea is to restore nature to its natural state.
Green Key
Vejrø is certified according to the international Green Key eco-label, which is the tourism industry's international eco-label. This means that Vejrø meets a number of environmental requirements within environmental management, energy, waste, cleaning, food, indoor climate and CSR.
Microgrid in Iceland mode on Vejrø with the possibility of 100% green energy share
Uniquely on Vejrø, we operate as an independent microgrid with no connection to the mainland. This means that we are completely self-sufficient in energy, water and heat. Through extensive upgrades, we have transformed our supply chain to be based primarily on green energy sources, and these are integrated into our microgrid system. This innovative system from Vestesen Hybrid Energy allows us to manage and utilize our resources in an efficient way.
By implementing microgrid technology, we achieve significant benefits. We reduce CO2 emissions to a minimum thanks to the maximum use of renewable energy resources. Our microgrid system can provide a stable power grid for operation with exclusively green energy and controls both power supply and demand throughout Vejrø. This results in what we refer to as "good energy" - a form of energy that is responsible, sustainable and efficient.

The company has received an Organic Area Grant to manage the farm's agricultural land. The purpose of the subsidy is to increase the organic area in Denmark and thereby achieve a number of benefits for the environment and biodiversity. The subsidy has been the basis for the farm to convert to and maintain organic agricultural production.
The farm has received a subsidy for the Care of grass and natural areas. The purpose of the scheme is to protect and improve biotope conditions and biodiversity on the property by setting aside areas for extensive grazing. The initiative has resulted in increased focus on biodiversity and care of the natural conditions on the farm.
